Sourdough Starter instructions

Image
Today we are doing something different, rather than an electronics video I thought I would share my method for making sourdough starter! My method for making sourdough starter requires the use of a kitchen scale be it Analog or digital, baker’s choice. We use the scale in order to maintain the starter at a 100% hydration level, which simply means the amount of water and flour is equal. Before beginning my starter I like to measure out a week or two worth of flour, this flour is a mixture of 50% unbleached white, 25% whole wheat, and 25% whole rye. I generally like to mix up about 800 grams worth, or 28ish ounces. I find that adding the whole wheat and rye flours strengthens the starter and provides it with additional nutrients not readily available in the white flour. Generally after this initial batch of flour runs out I will remove the rye and switch to a 50% white 50% whole wheat mixture. I find that this combination of flours works best for me; however you can use basically ...

Hello everyone, On today's episode of Tinkering with Terrius we take another look at the 555 Timer, this time in monostable operation. I hope you find it interesting or helpful!

Hello everyone! Episode 3 of Terrius Talks Tech went up this morning. I am hoping to start posting a new T₃ video at least every other Tuesday as I find them very fun to make (though perhaps a bit more difficult)! For today's episode I decided to see if I could make some graphs and a spreadsheet to help me get a better view of the AMD Ryzen Ecosystem as a whole. Thus I decided to aggregate 10 different sites worth of Ryzen (and Intel) benchmarks to find out what the Mean performance is of the platform. The most annoying part of looking at benchmarks for me is the variance to what settings people use. Therefore I figured by aggregating the data it would balance out the extremes of setting choices that bench markers may have chosen. The synthetic benchmark aggregation was super easy and took almost no time at all. The real hard part was trying to find games that a majority of reviewers reported scores for, in the end I settled on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Rise of the Tomb Raider, G...

Hello everyone, It was a hectic week this week and due to some unfortunate events I wasn't able to continue my 555 timer video series. I decided that I would use some previously recorded Kit build footage and make a minisode rather than not post anything at all. This week's episode is another aliexpress kit build, it is one of the "melody voice" kits that is supposed to detect sound and light the LEDs based on volume. It has a very hard time detecting voice but works well for vibrations like tapping on the table or blowing air across the microphone. Also for this episode, rather than having music play during the fast-forward of the soldering, I decided to tell a tale from my time working in computer sales! For anyone that is interested I've also started a new Facebook page for Tinkering With Terrius  so if you want to see random posts/videos about my progress on episodes and projects take a look!

Hello Everyone, I was given ten 555 timers a while back and finally decided that I should start to play around with them. I had never used one before so I decided to make an episode about them. In today's episode we take a look at the TI NE555P timer chip, we also use it in A-stable operation to blink a couple of LEDs! I hope you will enjoy it! https://youtu.be/h2UPKD-Yohg

Hello Everyone! Just thought I'd make a post and let you all know that Terrius Talks Tech episode 2 has been uploaded. I got inspired to make a video about the Jayden K. Smith chain letter hoax going around Facebook. It is important to note there is no way for somebody to hack your Facebook account simply through a friend request. They can however gain access to personal information that is viewable by your friends, such as birthdate, birth town, current address, and through social engineering they can try to coax other information out of you that can in the end potentially be used to Hijack your account, or worse, steal your identity. The moral of these scams is simple, only add people you trust to your friends list, and never follow a link from any source that you cannot verify the legitimacy of. This isn’t to say that you should fear every single friend request, simply exercise some caution, after all now-a-days so much of our personal information is online that a simple F...

Upload: TWT #21: Aliexpress Blinky LED Kit

Image
Hello Everyone! Today I posted a new kit build episode. Finally after 4 months I received my blinky LED kits from aliexpress! I still have to put together my Capacitance tester, but after a very stressful two weeks I figured I'd do something easy and enjoyable without many components to work with. I hope you all enjoy it!

Long overdue blog update! TWT 20, Mini 10, and T3 001!

Image
Hello Everyone, June turned out to be a very stressful and sad month, because of that I fell a bit behind on updating here. From June 19th until July 1st I was away from my computer and all I had for editing was some pre-recorded footage and my laptop (which did not make editing/rendering video pleasant). I apologize if the two videos I released were of poorer quality, I also couldn't use one of my editing tools. I am back now though, and will try to keep this up to date! I changed the blog's theme, the orange on grey was getting a bit annoying for me, so I swapped to blue on grey since that is more or less my Tinkering With Terrius channel colours. On June 21st I posted TWT #20, which was a review of the Neoteck NTK017/NT8233D Pro. The meter it self seemed okay, but inside the PCB was clearly designed down to a specific cost. The traces for the inputs were very narrow, and the only input protection was a single PTC. I was quite surprised as I had expected to see it be a...

Hello Everyone! I am a bit late with my upload this week but it is finally ready! Last week we looked at the AND, NOT and OR logic gates and built them. This week we have NAND, NOR and XOR! I hope you enjoy the episode!

Upload: TWT Mini #9, DSO138 Testing Follow-up

Image
Hello Everyone, I had some feedback about how to make the DSO138 display a stable waveform, so I decided to do a quick follow-up video! I'm currently editing TWT #18 as well, it is going to need a ton of work so it is likely I wont be posting it until later in the day tomorrow.

Upload: TWT17

Hello Everyone, I've had a terrible sinus cold since last week so I didn't manage to post the DSO138 testing until today, I had originally planned on posting it Monday. So many apologies for that. It seems I have gained quite a few subscribers over the last couple weeks which is really awesome!  At last check we have hit 33 Subs and over 4500 views! I've got some plans for my 100 sub video which hopefully wont be too far away!  So I wanted to say a super big THANK YOU , to all my viewers and subscribers! It gets more and more fun everyday (though maybe not when I'm sick and feel like my head is stuck underwater, bleh.) and I hope you will all continue to watch my episodes and stick with me as I learn! Hello Everyone! Mail Goodies Episode #6 is uploaded, I had a lot of mail arrive last week and some of it was needed for my final DSO138 video. Hopefully you enjoy! I plan on finishing the DSO138 video soon, so keep an eye out for it, I am hoping to have it uploaded on Monday. Click here to go to the video or watch it below. Mail Goodies #6

Upload: Mail Goodies 5 & TWT 14

Hello Everyone, Two new videos this week! Thursday I posted a Mail Goodies that was super quick to edit and began working on my first video of the JYE Tech DSO138 kit build. Friday I managed to finish editing the kit build video and now both are uploaded for anyone who is interested! You can the Mail Goodies by clicking here , or the DSO138 kit build by clicking here . Don't forget to like and subscribe! I recently discovered the video editing software DaVinci Resolve 14 so I decided to use that for the kit video. So far I am loving Resolve 14, it's still in beta and I have had about a dozen crashes, but its video editing power is far superior to PowerDirector15 which is what I normally use (I still had use it to do some audio editing and make the title and ending text).  TWT #14: JYE Tech DSO138 Part 1, SMD TWT: Mail Goodies #5

Hello everyone! Today I uploaded episode 13 which is a two part episode of TWT, I haven't been posting much on here as it doesn't seem to have a very large audience. (So far only a google search bot seems to pop by). The episode was a soldering basics episode. I briefly went over how to solder and the information required. Whenever I create an episode like this I generally work from a script, so I figured for fun I will also post the script for the episode here as well! The videos are linked after the script or you can click HERE for Part one , or HERE for Part two! TWT13 Soldering Basics Hello everyone, today’s episode is about Soldering Basics. If you’re new to electronics you may not know exactly what soldering is. So let’s define soldering. Soldering is the process in which a component is joined together with a circuit board, wire or another component, by melting a filler metal known as solder to make a solid connection. This filler metal’s melting point is m...

Hello Everyone! So unfortunately I had a HDD fail in my raid array this morning, so I had to spend all day backing up and rebuilding it. This means that my component tester review will have to wait until next week. I did luckily have a video recorded that I intended to post as a bonus episode in the future, so I edited that one and posted it instead. One of my two Graphics cards has been flaky for a couple months now, it seems to only be under heavy load so I figured I would replace the thermal paste and see if that helped. You can view it by clicking this link or watching it below! TWT #10: Radeon 7970 Graphics Card Thermal Compound Replacement

Episode 8 Uploaded!

Hello Everyone! As promised earlier Episode 8 is now uploaded! You can watch it by clicking here! Thank you everyone for reading/watching/subscribing! You are all awesome!

Status update: TWT #8

Hello Everyone! Just posting an update, episode #8 will be uploaded later tonight! I am working on the final edits and should be rendering it soon!  It has been a very busy/stressful week so I haven't had as much time for videos as I would have liked. Hopefully next week will be quieter and I can finish the Arduino series episode 1! This weeks episode is just a kit build from Aliexpress, as that was a simple easy thing to film on little sleep and short timeframe.

Update: Minisode 4 is up! New episodes soon.

Hello Everyone! Minisode 4 is now uploaded, you can watch it at this link. It is a fairly basic video and I think it is my shortest one yet. It has been a busy, non stop week, so I only had a bit of time to work on videos. I hope to have a couple new videos up next week, possibly including Arduino series episode 2!  I am also eagerly awaiting a few packages from aliexpress so that I can do another Mail Goodies episode! Thank you all for reading/watching/subscribing! It means a lot to me, and as long as at least one person out there is watching I will continue making videos!

Episode 7: Yihua 862D+ Safety Mod, now uploaded!

Hello Everyone! I forgot to post this earlier, I have uploaded Episode 7 now!  Hopefully it will give a good demonstration and explanation of what is required to make the Yihua 862D+ SMD rework station a bit safer. You can watch it by clicking here!

Update: Episode 7

Hello Everyone! Editing is complete, it took a bit longer than expected. As such I am rendering the video now, and will post it the moment I wake up tomorrow! Have a good night/morning(depending on timezone of course)!

Update: Episode 7: Safety Mod of 862D+

Hello everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that I have filmed episode 7, I felt it was important to get this one done ASAP. I will be doing edits on it tomorrow and should have it posted by Sunday morning. With how dangerous the mains switching in the 862D+ was I decided to make it safe before using it anymore!  The video may not be my best, as I was focused on doing the work to the best of my abilities and the video was just a secondary thing. I will post again once it is uploaded. I am still planning to post the Minisode of DIY Diffused LEDs, but it got pushed back slightly due to this.

Episode 6 now Up!

Hello Everyone, Episode 6 of Tinkering With Terrius is now uploaded. Today's episode is the first in my Arduino series, Arduino #0, Basic setup.  In this episode I touch on what Arduino is, and what you will need to follow along with the rest of my Arduino series. To view the episode click on this link! As always, if you have questions or comments please leave them here, in the comments section of the video, or E-mail or tweet them to me! I will always do my best to answer and reply to any I receive! Thank you to all my readers, subscribers and viewers!

Update: TWT #6, and Minisode 4

Hello Everyone, I am working on TWT Episode 6, I am not too sure if I will call it episode 6 or if I will split it off into a separate series like I did with the Mail Goodies. It is going to be the first of my Arduino series. I hope everyone will enjoy it. I am also working on Minisode 4 which will be "DIY diffused LEDs" Which should be a very short video.

Mail Goodies #2 is up!

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that TWT: Mail Goodies #2 is now uploaded!   You can view it by clicking on this text! It is my longest video yet, I wanted to give each item a decent show off. Unfortunately the video and audio qualities are a bit lower than normal, so I apologize in advance for that. I had a lot more background noise than usual and didn't realize how grainy the digital zoom on my phone was. Feel free to post any comments/questions here, or send them to me via E-mail or Twitter, or the comment section of the video! As always, Thank you to all my readers, viewers and subscribers, you guys rock!

New Mail Goodies episode in the works!

Image
Hello Everyone! So I just received some stuff from Amazon and China! I'm going to make another Mail Goodies episode. Also, why does amazon insist on using absurdly large boxes for relatively tiny items? ugh, is it just to troll me for recording these episodes? As always, thank you to all my viewers/readers! You guys are awesome! If you have any questions/comments feel free to post them here or sent then via E-mail or a tweet!

Episode 5 is now Uploaded!

Hello Everyone! Episode 5 is now uploaded and ready for viewing!  Click here to watch it now!  I hope you enjoy this episode, as a project I really enjoyed making the camera trigger! Thank you for reading and watching! If you have any questions feel free to post them here, or on the video, or sent them via e-mail/tweets!

Update: Minisode 4 is now Episode 5!

Hello Everyone! So it turns out that Minisode 4 became too long for me to consider it mini! Therefore it has been upgraded to a full length episode and will now be Episode 5! All of the editing is done, I just waiting for power director to finish rendering so that I can begin to upload it to Youtube! The episode will hopefully help anyone that wants to may a DIY camera trigger for their Canon camera. It was a fairly simple project but hopefully you will all enjoy the video! Thank you everyone for watching and reading my blog! If you have any comments feel free to leave them here, or on the video, or sent them Via e-mail or a Tweet! Stay tuned for the next update which will include a link to the finished video!

TWT Episode 4 uploaded, Minisode 4 update

Hello Everyone! Tinkering With Terrius Episode 4 is now up! I am still getting used to my new work space so I hope it isn't too terrible. You can view it at  This Link ! The un-boxing video footage is a couple months older than the rest, I had forgotten that I had it on my SD card! On the plus side, it gave me the motivation to do this video now that I found it! As for the minisode, I will begin editing it tomorrow night. I still hope to have it posted before Friday. As always, thank you to all my readers, subscribers and viewers!  I make these videos for fun, but it is nice to know there are people out there seeing them! (I'm not sure if I have any readers at my blog here yet though.) I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Update: Episode 4 almost done, minisode 4 recorded!

Hello Everyone! I apologize for the delay in updates. I have been very busy. I can happily say that Episode 4 (the unboxing/review of the 862D+) and Minisode 4 (making a remote camera trigger for canon cameras) have both been recorded. I have a few hours of editing ahead of me but I should have them finished and posted soon! I hope to have Ep. 4 up by Wednesday and minisode 4 up before Friday! Thank you for watching my videos and reading my blog. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! Have a wonderful day!

TWT Episode 3 is up!

Hello Everyone! I wanted to let everyone know that Episode 3 of TWT is posted and the unboxing of the SMD rework station is still a couple days away but for now hopefully you will enjoy a more in depth look at the items from the Mail Goodie minisode!

Minisode #3 is now up!

Hello everyone! Minisode #3 has been uploaded and is ready for viewing at this link .  I plan on uploading another video with a more in depth review of the items in the coming days, until then I hope you enjoy! I also haven't given up on my un-boxing/review of the smd rework station, I hit a few bumps with the video trans-coding but will be uploading it before next Wednesday as well!

TWT Episode 3 slight delay

Hello everyone! The un-boxing video got a bit sidetracked as I have moved my work space to a different room in the hopes of better recording. As such I will be posting a little Minisode again tonight, it is basically just a test of my new recording environment. Thank you all for the patience!

Working on Episode 3 of TWT

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to make a post to say that I am working on episode 3 of Tinkering With Terrius. One of the first pieces of equipment I got was a solder rework station, and I recently found the unboxing footage from it. I still need to record my review of the unit to complete the episode but it will be an Unboxing and Review of the Yihua 862d+ 2 in 1 Rework Station!

Welcome to the Tinkering with Terrius Blog

Hello, Welcome to my blog, this blog is an extension of my YouTube channel Tinkering With Terrius . I am creating it mostly as an avenue to post news and give updates on the status of my videos, as well to use it as an additional platform for Question/Comments and all that jazz!
